Who inspired you to start sailing?
My Dad [David Campbell-James] who was selected for the 1980 Olympics and raced in 1984 in the Tornado so he has a pretty big influence.

When did you know you wanted sailing to be a career rather than a hobby?
As soon as I took my first exam at school I knew I wanted to do something practical for a living.
What do you love most about sailing?
I get to do my hobby as a job
What has sailing taught you?
Everything, being a team player, how to win, how to lose
Favourite ever sailing race?
Venice AC45 World Series 2012, living on the grand canal, sailing a wing sailed cat past gondolas, driving to work in a motor boat, being able to swap anything for a Prada t-shirt.
How do you know when you have good form?
When you beat Ben!

Ideally on a beach or watching sport

I gave my Luna Rossa Chrome wetsuit to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation last year and it sold for $1700.
Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?
I'd like to be doing what I'm doing but maybe one step further back

Paul Campbell-James is one of the most versatile Land Rover BAR sailors, with a strong, successful background in both mono and multi-hull racing. He brings a great deal of technical ability and knowledge, combined with a fine record as a multihull helmsman. He represented Italian entry, Luna Rossa Challenge, filling the role of helmsman onboard ‘Swordfish’ during the 2012/13 America’s Cup World Series, moving into a reserve Helmsman and Performance Analyst role for the team’s 34th America’s Cup campaign. Previously, Campbell-James had dominated the Extreme Sailing Series, claiming two championship titles, the first was in 2010 with The Wave, Muscat and then again in 2011 with Team Luna Rossa. Before that he raced Olympic 49ers with the British team, but narrowly missed out on selection for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Campbell-James also had an active and successful match-racing career, including winning the British National title three times, the British Universities Team Race Championship and the Match Race University World Champion title whilst studying for his degree in Ship Science at the University of Southampton. Another BAR sailor who came up through the ranks of the RYA Youth programme, he was crowned 2002 Volvo RYA National Youth Match Racing Champion and was the Optimist National Champion in 1995.
