Land Rover BAR Academy qualify for Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Finals

Day two of the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup brought more light, tricky, west-south-west winds for the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup teams racing on Bermuda’s Great Sound, with long oscillating shifts testing the crews.

With three races sailed, Land Rover BAR Academy posted consecutive second place finishes, in the second and third races of the day. The second and final day of the Qualifiers leaves the British entry second overall on the scoreboard - joint on 51 points with first placed NZL Sailing Team and third placed Spanish Impulse Team – and qualifying for the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Finals. The finals are due to be raced Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st June.

Annabel Vose on Qualifying “we are incredibly happy to qualify for the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Finals. As a strategist, it was hard to pick the big shifts but it was great to perform and get the results we needed on such a tricky race course.”

Trimmer Sam Batten continued, “it was important to use all of our experience to sail the best VMG course and keep speed around the whole race. The points were so tight, it just shows how close this fleet is and any mistake is punished. We have a few days now to go away and debrief these qualifiers and come back stronger.”
